The Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory was established in 1888, making it the oldest surviving Dairy Company in Australia. In 1888 the Company sourced milk from only six suppliers. Today that number has increased to over 600 suppliers from areas covering south western and central Victoria, and the Fleurieu Peninsula, the Hills and south-eastern regions of South Australia.

Warrnambool Cheese and Butter Factory Company Limited reviews its compliance with environmental regulatory requirements and takes a proactive approach to environmental matters.

The Company has put in place several initiatives to reduce waste from the factory, including the recovery and recycling of heat from the refrigeration plant to the hot water system, the use of biogas from the effluent plant to partially power the plant boilers and the recycling of sludge generated from the waste treatment plant into organic fertiliser for use by Company suppliers.
