Sugar Australia Pty Limited was established in March 1998 as a joint venture between CSR Limited (50%), Mackay Sugar Co-operative Association Limited (25%), and ED&F Mann (25%). In 2004, CSR purchased ED&F Mann's share of the joint venture, and CSR now hold 75%. Sugar Australia has a strong parentage. CSR - an Australian icon - has been involved in the local sugar industry since 1855.

Sugar is an inexpensive, natural sweetener and a nutritive carbohydrate. Its sweetness profile is generally not matched by other carbohydrates or artificial sweeteners, and is stable over time. Refined sugar is produced from raw sugar and the Australian raw sugar industry is one of the largest in the world. The Australian industry produces 5.2 million tonnes of raw sugar annually and 85 per cent of this is exported. Sugar Australia is the largest domestic customer of Australian raw sugar, and the largest exporter of Australian refined sugar.

Treacle: (Ingredients: cane sugar, water)

Treacle has a richer colour than golden syrup, and a stronger, slightly bitter flavour. It provides the strong sweet flavour necessary for many baking and confectionery recipes. A couple of spoonfuls of rich sticky treacle will add a distinctive colour and taste to your rich dark brown cakes and puddings.
