Pyren Vineyard

Pyren Vineyard was established in 1999. Situated on the northern slopes of the dramatic Warrenmang Valley in Australia’s Pyrenees wine region, the vineyard’s dedicated purpose is to produce premium wine and, in particular, great shiraz. Approximately 50 acres are planted to shiraz, with the remainder of the vineyard dedicated to cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, petit verdot, malbec, durif and viognier.

The site is highly undulating, with the best quality fruit coming from the elevated ridges of the valley slope where an exposed quartz reef and rocky soil create an exceptionally well drained bed for the vines.
Pyren Vineyard’s viticulturalist, Tim Searle, manages the vineyard carefully to ensure that the vines produce low yields of healthy, concentrated and fully ripe fruit each year. Typical tonnage rates are between one and a half to two tonnes per acre.
Broken Quartz Shiraz 2005
Broken Quartz Shiraz is Pyren Vineyard’s high quality, entry level shiraz. It is named for the quartz reef which runs through the vineyard’s rows and has left lines of broken quartz throughout the vineyard. The fruit for Broken Quartz was picked towards the end of April 2005 and showcases the excellent balance of acid and ripe fruit which the 2005 growing season allowed. The wine is deep purple in colour, with earthy/savoury highlights on the nose and palate. It has great balance and length with good firm tannins to allow extended cellaring.
Block E Shiraz 2005
Block E Shiraz is Pyren Vineyard’s premium shiraz. It is sourced from the elevated blocks of the vineyard where our most established vines grow along the exposed ridges and yield intensely flavoured fruit. The fruit is picked at full ripeness and flavour and then fermented in open vats to extract the beautiful colour and flavour of Pyrenees shiraz. The 2005 Block E Shiraz has a lifted aromatic and spicy nose which shows rich fruit and oak characters. The palate of complex fruit flavours is long, supple and support by dusty tannins.
