Mount Avoca is a long established winery in the Victorian Pyrenees. Established in 1970 and owned by Matthew and Lisa Barry, Mount Avoca has a well earned reputation for consistently producing some of the finest wines in the country.

Their wines are available directly from the winery 7 days a week, and of course via mail, e-mail, fax and telephone orders. The 24 Ha (60 acres) vineyard produces from 150 to 220 tonnes of grapes in most years or 12,000 to 16,000 dozen bottles per annum. Six main wines are produced: Shiraz, Cabernet, Merlot in the reds and Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and a Semillon/Sauvignon Blanc blend in the whites.
Mount Avoca is best known for its traditional range of reds and whites. The Estate Range is made from grapes from their own vineyards.
The white wines include a fresh and flavoursome Sauvignon Blanc, a rich and alluring Chardonnay and the soft fruity Semillon-Sauvignon Blanc.
The famous Pyrenees reds, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon are joined by Merlot, a variety that they have had great success with.
Handcrafted from the vineyard to the bottle these are all well structured wines of depth and flavour with classic Victorian elegance that makes for sumptuous drinking immediately. Careful cellaring will of course add an extra dimension – if you can keep them that long!
Their progress to organic certification is ongoing, but philosophically and practically they are finding that they are often further down the rack than some other well publicised vineyards. Largely due to their climatic conditions,- very low humidity and proximity to pastures and forests, they have low disease pressure and a natural abundance of natural controls.
Mount Avoca is currently distributed by Nelson Wine Company in Victoria.
Mount Avoca also supplies a number of international markets as well as several corporate and buyer own brand wines.
