Krowera Hills Olive Grove is located near Loch, 250 meters above sea level in the Strezlecki Ranges of South Gippsland in Victoria. This rich rural land was originally classic blue gum country, cleared in the early 1900’s to make way for lush dairy pastures. Many ‘old timers’ are still able to recall the 300 foot Blue Gums that once thrived in this region. The Estate was established in 1999 by planting a selection of 1700 olive trees, predominantly Frantoio & Correggiola. As the fruit ripens slowly in the relatively cold environment they have a late harvest in mid June. The hand picked olives are pressed using the cold centrifugal extraction process to produce extra virgin olive oil. Their olive trees have benefited from this regions remarkable fertile soils and temperate climate producing award winning gourmet olive oil similar to those found in southern Italy. Their extra virgin olive oil has aromatic fruity flavours with a mild peppery finish on the back palate as well as high levels of polyphenols and mono-unsaturated fatty acids that help lower cholesterol.
